Rex-centric mutualism.

چکیده
We asked whether Rex exclusion encoded by a lambda prophage confers a protective or a cell-killing phenotype. We found that the Rex system can channel lysogenic cells into an arrested growth phase that gives an overall protective ability to the host despite some associated killing.

Rex and a suppressor of Rex are repeated neomorphic loci in the Drosophila melanogaster ribosomal DNA.
The Rex locus of Drosophila melanogaster induces a high frequency of mitotic exchange between two separated ribosomal DNA arrays on a single chromosome. The exchanges take place in the progeny of Rex mothers and occur very early, before the third mitotic division. A number of common laboratory stocks have also been found to carry dominant suppressors of Rex (Su(Rex)). Rex was mapped to the X ce...
متن کاملP-106: Comparative Expression of The Stemness Gene Oct-4, Nanog, Sox-2 and Rex-1 in Normal Endometrium and in Endometriosis
Background Endometriosis is a gynecological disease defined as the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity, which caused by various factors. Recent evidences support the presence of endometrial stem cells and their possible involvement in endometriosis. Related studies mainly focus on stemness-related genes, and pluripotency markers may play a role in the etiology of endometri...
متن کاملConstruction of bacteria-eukaryote synthetic mutualism
Mutualism is ubiquitous in nature but is known to be intrinsically vulnerable with regard to both population dynamics and evolution. Synthetic ecology has indicated that it is feasible for organisms to establish novel mutualism merely through encountering each other by showing that it is feasible to construct synthetic mutualism between organisms. However, bacteria-eukaryote mutualism, which is...
متن کاملMutualism (biology)
Mutualism is the way two organisms of different species exist in a relationship in which each individual benefits from the activity of the other. Similar interactions within a species are known as co-operation. Mutualism can be contrasted with interspecific competition, in which each species experiences reduced fitness, and exploitation, or parasitism, in which one species benefits at the expen...
متن کاملCorrection: Resource Availability Modulates the Cooperative and Competitive Nature of a Microbial Cross-Feeding Mutualism
Mutualisms between species play an important role in ecosystem function and stability. However, in some environments, the competitive aspects of an interaction may dominate the mutualistic aspects. Although these transitions could have far-reaching implications, it has been difficult to study the causes and consequences of this mutualistic-competitive transition in experimentally tractable syst...
